KISS-DU organized an environmental awareness programme on 12th and 13th October 2023 in collaboration with Odisha Environmental Society (OES). There was the eloquence and essay competition on 12th October 2023 among the students. This received an overwhelming response from 45 students. The topic of the essay was “Significance of the Plantation of Trees in the Present Juncture” and 30 students participated in Eloquence on the topic “Should Wildlife be protected?”.

Dr. Snigdharani Panda, Chairperson Council of Deans emphasized on creating environmental awareness and the contribution of KISS in this regard. Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Professor Deepak Kumar Behera delivered his address as the chief guest of the meeting on the importance of trees for human beings. He also focused on cultural mechanism to maintain bio-diversity by the tribal giving examples of festival of Jahira and Sacred Grove etc.

Chief Speaker of the meeting Dr Jayakrushna Panigrahi, the secretary of OES emphasized on massive plantation, protection and preservation of wildlife with natural resources in his speech. The programme was sponsored by Indian Bank Bhubaneswar. DGM Sankar Raju from BOI delivered his speech on protection of natural resources while addressing the students and volunteers.  Additional Secretary OES Engineer, Manoranjan Mishra conducted a quiz competition among the students. The best performers were felicitated.

The meeting was anchored by Mitali Sahoo , Faculty, KISS. The programme was coordinated by the volunteers and the officer in-charge Bedamati pattanaik from YRC UNIT of KISS-DU. The meeting was followed by a plantation programme at the Botanical Garden of the University. The members from OES planted 100 rare saplings along with the volunteers of YRC and the faculty members of KISS-DU.
