The Anthropology Programme under the aegis of the School of Tribal Legal Studies and Tribal Rights (STLSTR) of Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) Deemed to be University organized a seminar on 16th February 2023 to observe World Anthropology Day. The event was graced by senior functionaries, Professors Emeriti, faculty, research scholars, and students of the School of STLSTR. Over eighty participants attended the seminar.
Professor N. C. Dash, a retired eminent professor of Anthropology and Professor Emeritus of KISS-DU and Professor Deepak Kumar Behera, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of KISS-DU were invited as distinguished speakers on the occasion.
At the outset, Dr. Sushree Sangita Mohanty, Assistant Professor in Anthropology welcomed the participants and introduced the guests. Mr. Manoranjan Mohapatra delivered an introductory address about the significance of observing ‘World Anthropology Day’ and elaborated its relevance for students and professionals. Speaking in turn, Dr. Pragyan Mohanty also encouraged the students and scholars to use anthropological knowledge and ideas to solve society’s problems and achieve desired growth.
Professor N.C. Dash, in his deliberation, highlighted the history of world anthropology day observance and mentioned the role of an anthropologist in the present day. In his address, Professor Deepak Kumar Behera motivated the students to learn Anthropology’s true essence by remembering famous Anthropologists’ contributions. In his talk, Dr. Manoj Behera pointed out the notable contributions of Odia Anthropologists to Culture Studies and inspired students to learn from them.
Dr. Deepak Kunmar Ojha, Assistant Professor in Anthropology, proposed a Vote of Thanks.
