KISS,Deemed to be University, produced its first Ph.D. Scholarson 26th May 2022. Dr.Hisi Soren and Dr.Juthika Priyadarshini Naik have created history by being the first toreceiveDoctorate of Philosophy degree under KISS-DU.
Ms. Hisi Soren, from the Santal tribe of Moranda Village, Jamda Block, Mayurbhanj District, was awarded Ph.D. in Education under the School of Tribal Heritage and Tribal Indology, KISS-DU. Dr. Soren has done her Ph.D. on the topic ‘Environmental Awareness of Tribal and Non-tribal Students in the Secondary schools of Mayurbhanj district of Odisha’ under the supervision of Dr. Sujata Acharya, Principal KISS and Director KISS Wellness Centre, KISS-DU.Dr.Sijimol, S, from M.G. University, Kottayam Kerala, and Dr.Renu Kumari, LNM University, Darbhanga, Bihar,were the External Examiners. Dr. Manoj Behera, Dean,School of Tribal Heritage and Tribal Indology, was the V.C. nominee.
Ms. Juthika Priyadarshini Naik, from the Sounti tribe of Kundulia Village, Bisoi Block, Mayurbhanj District,was awarded Ph.D. in Odia under the School of Comparative Tribal Languages and Literatures, KISS-DU.Dr. Naik has completed her Ph.D. on ‘Odia Natakare Adivasi Chitra O Charitra: Eka Akalana’under Dr.Rasmita Tripathy, Dean, School of Comparative Tribal Languages and Literatures.The External Examiner was Professor Narayan Sahoo, Professor of P.G. Department of Odia, Utkal University, Vani Vihar,Dr.Preetinanda Roy, Assistant Professor, and Deputy Director Admissionswas V.C. Nominee.
Another feather was added to KISS-DU’s cap when Rashmi Murmu was awarded a Ph.D. degree under the supervision of Dr.Pramodini Jena, School of Comparative Tribal Languages and Literatures, KISS-DU, on the topic ‘Santali Bhasa O SanskrutiraBikasDigarePandit Raghunath MurmunkaAbadana’. Professor and Head of the Department of Odia, F.M. University, Balasorewas the External Examiner and Dr.ChittaranjanBhoi, Associate Professor, was the V.C. Nominee.Dr.Murmu is the third scholar to be conferred Ph.D. degree under KISS, Deemed to be University.
The University has encouraged research scholars to pursue research on tribal-centric topics focusing on their communities and villages. These research scholars are groomed to become change agents for their communities through their research activities and ensuring that the findings and observations from the research works are put to use in curating a better life for thepeople back in their villages. The idea is to bring the lab to land and ensure the protection, preservation, and promotion of tribal cultural diversity.
