The School of Comparative Indic Studies and Tribal Sciences organized an enlightening awareness programme on April 22, 2025, with the theme “E-Waste: A Global Challenge and Local Solution” to promote environmental responsibility and sustainable waste management practices.
The session began with a detailed discussion on the concept of e-waste, its sources, the alarming rate of generation, and effective methods of management. The Dean of the School, Dr Vimal Kumar Pandey, who graced the event as the Chief Guest, addressed the gathering and emphasized the urgent need to adopt eco-friendly practices, responsible disposal, and recycling of electronic waste to safeguard our planet. We also had the honour of inviting Dr Rebati Kanta Mishra, retired Deputy Director of the Pollution Control Board, Government of Odisha, to address our students and shed light on the significance of e-waste management.
Students from both postgraduate and undergraduate programmes actively participated in the event. To further enhance creative engagement, a painting competition was organized on the same theme, allowing students to express their awareness and concern through art. The best entries were recognised and rewarded, adding a spirit of enthusiasm and accomplishment to the occasion.
The programme concluded with a note of appreciation for the faculty and staff whose dedicated efforts ensured its grand success and a take-home message that is “E-waste is not just a technological by-product but a pressing environmental issue. Each individual holds the responsibility to reduce, reuse, and recycle electronics mindfully. Sustainable habits today will ensure a cleaner, greener tomorrow”.
