Programmes for services access
KISS-DU organizes programs and training to improve access to basic services for all, particularly marginalized and economically disadvantaged indigenous communities. The university plays a pivotal role in ensuring that indigenous communities gain access to key services such as healthcare, education, rural housing, clean water and sanitation, livelihoods etc.
These on campus and off campus initiatives are outlined below:-
- Free Health Camps:- KISS-DU organizes free health camps in regular intervals in collaboration with Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS). These provide basic healthcare services, including check-ups, vaccinations, blood tests, and hygiene education. These camps also educate the community on preventive healthcare practices, including nutrition, sanitation, maternal health, and disease prevention.
- Health Awareness Programmes:
- KISS-DU (Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences-Deemed to be University) and CII-Young Indians (Confederation of Indian Industry-Young Indians) have partnered to address the growing addiction issue among youth. This collaboration aims to raise awareness and promote preventive measures to combat substance abuse. Over 200 students participated in a recent event held on 30 July 2024, gaining valuable insights into the dangers of addiction and the importance of staying informed. The event featured key speakers such as Dr Rahul Pradhan and Mr Vishal Dalmia, who emphasised the urgent need for collective action. - Department of Philosophy, School of Tribal Culture, Philosophy and Eco Spiritualism (STCPE) organised an Indian Council of Philosophical Research (ICPR), New Delhi sponsored Distinguished Invited Lecture on International Yoga Day on 23rd July 2024. - Training Programmes: The Youth Red Cross and Rovers and Rangers, KISS-DU jointly observed Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Week at Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) Deemed to be University on 28th July 2024. The training session was conducted by the team of doctors from Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS). https://university.kiss.ac.in/posts/cpr-week-observed-at-kiss-du/ The Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Week was observed and a total of 200 enthusiastic volunteers participated in the training session. The session aimed at creating awareness, educating and training the students on the importance and techniques of CPR training. This was initiated with the objective of teaching CPR as a vital life saving skill.
- Education For All – KISS-DU in collaboration with KIIT Deemed to be University organizes Education for All campaign every year in the month of January to educate the community on the importance of education for empowerment. The University provides online courses and learning materials to indigenous students to increase access to quality education leading to societal transformation and eradication of poverty (SDG-1).
- Access to Clean Water and Sanitation – KISS-DU implements sanitation awareness and cleanliness campaigns to educate communities about proper hygiene practices and the importance of maintaining clean surroundings.
- Access to Financial Services – KISS DU organizes free workshops and training programs on financial literacy, digital literacy, market linkages and E-Commerce. This helps indigenous communities manage their finances effectively and make informed economic decisions. The digital literacy training, enables them to access online platforms and services, such as government portals, online education, and access to critical services.
- Community Projects – KISS-DU collaborates with CSR to implement community projects, establishment of schools to enable indigenous communities.
- Counselling by KISS Wellness Centre : The KISS Wellness Centre provides counseling to help students with emotional, social, and academic issues, aiming to promote holistic development and happiness. There are two Counselling Centers located in the campus 3, one for the girls and the other one for the boys. Centers are functioning in their respective hostels for easy accessibility of the boys and girls students. Rooms are spacious, well-ventilated, comfortable sitting arrangement with a soothing ambience and total privacy. https://university.kiss.ac.in/campus-life/wellness/
- Professor Robin Edward Gearing from the University of Houston delivered a distinguished invited lecture on “Informing suicide Prevention Pathways: Targeting ideation and Behaviour” on 7th November 2024. - The Psychology Program of the School of Tribal Heritage and Tribal Indology (STHTI) at KISS Deemed to be University (KISS-DU), in collaboration with the KISS Wellness Centre, organized an awareness seminar on the occasion of World Suicide Prevention Day on 10th September 2024.
