Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) Deemed to be University observed 26th Death Anniversary of Shri, Biju Patnaik on 17th April 2023 under the aegis of Biju Patnaik Research Chair established at KISS-DU. Hon’ble Founder of KISS and KIIT Dr. Achyuta Samanta paid tributes to the legend by garlanding the statue of Biju Babu on the campus. Among others, the senior functionaries of KISS were also present and paid their respects.

Biju Patnaik Research Chair and Political Science Programme, KISS-DU jointly organized a seminar titled “Biju Patnaik: His legacy”. The Vice Chancellor, KISS-DU, Professor Deepak Kumar Behera, welcomed the gathering and stressed the fact that the present generation students should familiarize themselves with times and deeds of Biju Babu and draw inspiration from his life.

Dr. Arun Kumar Mohanty, former professor of English, Ravenshaw College, Cuttack remembered the milestones achieved by Biju Babu. Defeats and losses in elections did not deter his indomitable spirit to develop Odisha. Mr. Debraj Pradhan, former Ambassador and Director General, International Relations, KIIT Deemed to be University spoke about Biju Babu’s cosmopolitan outlook and highlighted his international presence

Dr. Prasanta Kumar Routray, Registrar, KISS-DU, in his concluding remarks, recounted his meetings with the great man and narrated his experiences. He also mentioned that it was Biju Babu who immediately implemented provisions of the 73rd amendment without any delay.

Earlier, Professor Jugal Kishore Mishra, Professor, Biju Patnaik Research Chair, had introduced the theme of the seminar.  The students of the University paid tribute to Biju Babu through a song. The students also had made a video on Biju Babu chronicling his times and events.
