The Gender Champions Committee in collaboration with Gender Sensitization Cell and Center for Women’s Studies of KISS Deemed to be University organized a Gender Sensitization and Awareness Programme. The programme was conducted as an interactive classroom activity with students to promote awareness regarding gender equality, legal rights, early marriage issues, and day-to-day challenges faced by students in university and hostel life. The initiative aimed at strengthening gender justice and creating a safe and inclusive academic environment in alignment with UGC guidelines on gender sensitization.
The objectives of the programme was to sensitize students about the concept of gender and gender equality; create awareness regarding constitutional and legal rights related to gender; discuss social issues such as early marriage and its impact on education; address gender-related challenges faced in classrooms and hostels and encourage students to become proactive Gender Champions within the campus.
The programme commenced with an introductory address highlighting the importance of gender equality in higher education institutions. Faculty members and Gender Champions explained the role and responsibilities of Gender Champions in promoting an inclusive campus environment.
A PowerPoint presentation titled “Gender Champions” was delivered covering the definition of gender, gender stereotypes, legal safeguards, and the importance of equal opportunities. Special emphasis was laid on early marriage practices, its socio-economic implications, and its impact on education and personal development.
Students were encouraged to share their experiences regarding day-to-day university and hostel life. The session was highly interactive and participatory, allowing students to express concerns and seek clarifications in a supportive environment.
Students actively participated in the programme with enthusiasm. Students engaged in meaningful discussion and reflected on gender equality in academic and social contexts. The session fostered open dialogue, mutual respect, and awareness about rights and responsibilities.
The Outcomes and Impact included Enhanced awareness about gender equality and legal rights; understanding of the adverse effects of early marriage; Increased confidence among students to discuss gender-related issues and Strengthened commitment to maintaining equality and dignity within campus.
The Gender Champions Awareness Programme conducted on 30 January 2026 successfully sensitized students regarding gender equality, rights, and social responsibilities. The initiative reflects the institution’s commitment towards UGC guidelines for gender sensitization and empowerment. Such programmes play a vital role in promoting inclusivity, equity, and a safe learning environment within higher educational institutions.
