The Central Library, KISS-DU, in collaboration with the Department of Library and Information Science, School of Tribal Heritage and Tribal Indology observed National Librarians’ Day on 12 August 2026 to commemorate the birth anniversary of Padma Shri Dr. S. R. Ranganathan, revered as the Father of Library Science in India.

The programme commenced with a warm welcome address by Dr. Chittaranjan Bhoi, Professor-in-Charge, Library. In his address, Dr. Bhoi highlighted the vital role of the Library in an academic institution and emphasized the importance of Librarians as guides who enable users to make effective and meaningful use of library resources and facilities.

Mr. Rabin Kumar Khandayatray, Chief Librarian, spoke on the purpose and significance of observing National Librarians’ Day. He emphasized the role of the Library in nurturing knowledge, encouraging intellectual growth, and transforming hidden talents into meaningful action. Dr. Manoj Kumar Behera, Additional Registrar, highlighted the importance of reading books and journals. He also urged the students and the members of the University community to make optimum use of the valuable resources and facilities provided by the Library. Dr. Snigdharani Panda, Joint Registrar, encouraged the students of Library and Information Science to gain practical knowledge and utilize the library facilities and services to its fullest, complementing the theoretical knowledge imparted in the classroom.

The event was coordinated by Mr Kalandi Charan Swain, Assistant Chief Librarian, and Dr. Shubhasmita Acharya, Assistant Professor, Department of Library and Information Science, delivered the vote of thanks.

The celebration witnessed enthusiastic participation from students of the Department of Library and Information Science, members of the Library Committee, Deans of Schools, faculty members and library professionals of KISS-DU. The programme served as a meaningful occasion to recognize the indispensable role of libraries and librarians in fostering knowledge, learning, research and academic excellence.
