Dr. Sujata Acharya, Dean, School of Tribal Heritage and Tribal Indology, KISS-DU was invited as a Resource Person in ”One-Day Workshop on Translation” organized by the Odisha Sahitya Akademi (A State Academy of Letters), Odia Language, Literature & Culture Department, Government of Odisha, Bhubaneswar in collaboration with Niali College, Niali, Cuttack on 18th March 2026.

She speak on the theme ”Role of Translation in Odia Language & Literature and the Obstacles”. During her presentation, she highlighted on how translation strengthenes cultural exchange and understanding, introduces global ideas, cultures and philosophies into Odia literature, preserves and spreads regional works, introduces global ideas into Odia literature and the obstacles like, difficulty in translating idioms, proverbs and poetic forms due to lack of equivalent words, cultural differences leading to loss of meaning and risk of losing original tone, style and emotion while translating by the translators. Further, Dr. Acharya highlighted the remedial measures by saying, a skilled translator should be very careful to keep the deeper meaning of the original texts as it is, as translation does not mean the exact translation of words into target language, rather translation is an essential tool to preserve Odia language, literature and culture for the development of human civilization. She opined that the same has been enumerated in NEP – 2020 in a lucid manner.
