The Department of Odia, School of Comparative Tribal Languages and Literatures (SCTLL), in collaboration with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) and the Centre for Folklore Studies, KISS Deemed to be University, organised the observance of Classical Odia Language Day (Shastriya Odia Bhasha Diwas) on 11th March 2026, Academic Building, KISS Campus 4, KISS Deemed to be University, Bhubaneswar. The programme aimed to honour the classical status of the Odia language and to promote awareness about its rich literary heritage, historical depth, and cultural significance. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from faculty members, research scholars, and students of the department.

The programme commenced with a Welcome Address by Dr. Rasmita Tripathy, Head of the Department of Odia and Centre Head of the Centre for Folklore Studies, SCTLL, KISS Deemed to be University. In her address, she highlighted the historical importance and classical heritage of the Odia language and emphasised the responsibility of scholars and students in preserving and promoting its rich literary tradition.

Following the welcome address, three research scholars of the department addressed the gathering and shared their insights on the historical evolution, literary richness, and cultural significance of the Odia language. Their thoughtful presentations reflected the scholarly engagement of the department with the study and promotion of Odia literature and language. The session was further enriched by poem recitations presented by three students, who recited poems celebrating the beauty, pride, and expressive power of the Odia language. Their performances added a creative and emotional dimension to the programme.

The Chief Speaker of the Day, Chair Professor, Dr. B.R Ambedkar Research Chair, KISS-DU Dr. Chittaranjan Bhoi, delivered an insightful lecture on the importance of preserving the classical identity of the Odia language. In his address, he discussed the historical journey of Odia language, its classical recognition, and the need for continuous research and scholarly efforts to strengthen its presence in the academic and cultural spheres.

The entire session was smoothly coordinated by Kousalya Pattnaik, Ph.D. Scholar of the Department of Odia, who ensured the orderly conduct of the programme. The event was attended by Ph.D. scholars, postgraduate and undergraduate students of the department, whose active presence contributed to the success of the programme. The programme concluded with a Vote of Thanks delivered by Dr. Amulya Ratna Nanda, Assistant Professor, Department of Odia, SCTLL, KISS Deemed to be University. He expressed his gratitude to the chief speaker, faculty members, scholars, and students for their valuable participation and for making the observance meaningful and successful.
