A Student Seminar was organized by the Education Programme under the School of Tribal Heritage and Tribal Indology (THTI) on 17th March 2023. The seminar was graced with the benign presence of Professor Namita Mohanty, Professor Emerita, KISS-DU as the distinguished speaker. Dr. Manoj Behera, Dean, School of THTI, Dr. Sujata Acharya, Head of the Education Programme, faculty members, Ph.D. Scholars and P.G students of the Education Programme were present in the seminar.

At the outset, Dr. Sujata Acharya welcomed all. She introduced the distinguished speaker Prof. Namita Mohanty elaborating on her scholastic achievements, bright academic career and contributions towards the KISS Wellness Centre. Addressing the gathering Dr. Manoj Behera, Dean, School of THTI, briefed the Vision and Mission of the School and highlighted the importance of classroom seminars for the students.

Professor Namita Mohanty spoke on ‘Counselling and its Importance in Today’s Life’. She started her presentation by defining counselling as ‘Psychological First Aid’ and elaborated needs of counselling at every stage of life, starting from infancy till the stages like senescence and senility. Professor Mohanty focused on the purpose of counselling in every person’s life as she/he has to face multifarious problems in day-to-day life. She also pointed out that trustworthiness and empathy are the two best qualities of a successful counsellor. She mentioned that counselling helps the students to resolve their personal, emotional, social, educational as well as psychological issues.

Ms. Diptishree Dash, Faculty moderated the question-answer session. The questions raised by Uday Kisku and Teresa Kujur, P.G students, Shyamlal Marndi and Anil Tadingi, Ph.D. Scholars were addressed by Professor Mohanty. Ms. Saswati Jena, Assistant Professor, Education Programme organized the event and Mr. Hurendra Parida proposed a formal Vote of Thanks.
