Professor Deepak Kumar Behera, Vice Chancellor, Dr. Prashanta Kumar Routray, Registrar and Professor Jugal Kishore Mishra, Director IQAC, KISS-DU attended the North-Eastern and Eastern Zone Vice Chancellor’s Conference on Implementation of NEP-2020 on 28th June 2024. The conference was organized in collaboration with University Grants Commission, hosted by Pragjyotishpur University and Nagaland University was the Lead Coordinator.
At the Inaugural Session, Professor Smriti Kumar Sinha, Vice Chancellor, Pragjyotishpur University, Guwahati delivered the Welcome Address and the Opening Remarks and Conference Objectives were brought to light by Professor M. Jagadesh Kumar, Hon’ble Chairman, UGC. This was followed by the addresses of Shri Ranoj Pegu, Hon’ble Minister of Education of Assam and Shri Rakkam A. Sangma. The Keynote Address was delivered by the Chief Guest Shri Gulab Chand Kataria, Hon’ble Governor of Assam and Professor Jogesh Kakoti the Registrar of Pragjyotishpur University proposed Vote of Thanks.
In his address, Professor M. Jagadesh Kumar, Hon’ble Chairman, UGC spoke about the importance of organizing such conferences in order to ensure that the National Education Policy is implemented and executed smoothly in their respective institutions. He added that this provides an opportunity to under the best practices of each institution and the need for the implementation of all the components of NEP-2020. Further, he presented glimpses of the post-inaugural activities which included details of the Parallel Sessions and Presentation Sessions. Speaking at length about them, he said that the objective of these sessions is to meet panelists and engage in meaningful brainstorming sessions in order to gain perspectives on the various recently introduced reforms in the Higher Education in India. Professor Jagadesh special emphasis on how to effectively introduce Multidisciplinary Holistic Education. He shared some of the parameters to ensure that our research ecosystem is working effectively and increase our global university rankings. He stressed that implementing these aspects shall help in contributing to the technological evolution and India can become a solution provider to the rest of the world. Additionally, he underscored on the dire need of building the capacity of the teachers and help in improving their pedagogical techniques.
Achieving GER of 50%; establishment of Digital Universities to ensure that education become equitable and inclusive; implementation of Indian Knowledge System in every discipline; preservation of Indian literatures and teaching in Indian languages were some of the highlights of the deliberation by Professor M. Jagadesh Kumar, Hon’ble Chairman UGC.
