The School of Comparative Indic Studies and Tribal Sciences, KISS Deemed to be University, Bhubaneswar, Odisha, observed World Ozone Day on September 16th with vibrant educational activities aimed at raising awareness about the critical importance of ozone layer protection.

As part of the celebration, a quiz competition was conducted, drawing enthusiastic participation from 60 students—twenty each representing the departments of Food Science, Botany, and Zoology. The event fostered interdisciplinary engagement and highlighted the relevance of ozone conservation across diverse scientific fields. In addition to the quiz, fifteen students showcased their creativity and environmental knowledge through a poster presentation, visually communicating the significance of the ozone layer and the dangers posed by its depletion.

The event was graced by Dr. R. K. Mishra, Former Senior Scientist , Environmental and Disaster Management, Government of Odisha, who served as the chief justice for this academic contest. Dr. Mishra commended the university’s commitment to environmental education and emphasized the transformative power of science and collective action, echoing this year’s global Ozone Day theme, “From Science to Global Action”. During the event all faculty members along with  Dr. Vimal Pandey Dean, CISTS were present and encourage the students.

World Ozone Day is celebrated internationally to commemorate the signing of the Montreal Protocol, which stands as one of the most successful environmental treaties, protecting the ozone layer from harmful substances. Activities at KISS University reflected both the international spirit and the local dedication to fostering environmental stewardship among students and the broader community.

The initiative at KISS University highlights the crucial role played by educational institutions in inspiring young minds to participate in environmental protection and awareness and reaffirms Odisha’s position at the forefront of community-driven ecological action.
