The Odia Department, School of Comparative Tribal Languages and Literatures (SCTLL), and Centre for Folklore Studies (CFS), in collaboration with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) and the Centre for Translational Studies, KISS Deemed to be University, Bhubaneswar, observed International Mother Language Day on 21st February 2025.

The event commenced with a detailed address by Dr. Rasmita Tripathy, Associate Professor and Head of the Odia Department, SCTLL, and Centre Head, Centre for Folklore Studies, elaborated on the significance of International Mother Language Day. She highlighted the role of indigenous languages in preserving cultural heritage and fostering linguistic diversity.

Speaking in turn,Dr. Chittaranjan Bhoi, Associate Professor and Dean, SCTLL, and Centre Head, Centre for Translational Studies, addressed the audience. He emphasized the need for linguistic inclusivity and the promotion of mother tongues in education and research. The Chief Speaker, Dr. Anil Kumar Mishra, Associate Professor, English Department, SCTLL, delivered an insightful speech on the importance of mother languages in shaping identity and social cohesion. He discussed how multilingualism enriches societies and contributes to holistic education.

A prize distribution ceremony was held to felicitate meritorious students who excelled in various competitions, including Essay Writing, Singing, and Dance Competitions, conducted on the eve of International Mother Language Day. The winners were applauded for their talent and dedication to cultural and linguistic expressions.

The program concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Ratnaprava Parija, Assistant Professor and Head, English Department, SCTLL, who expressed gratitude to all dignitaries, faculty members, students, and staff for making the event a grand success. The entire event was coordinated by Dr. Nibedita Mohanty, Associate Professor, Odia Department, SCTLL, KISS DU, ensuring a smooth and impactful celebration of the day.
