In observance of National Technology Day 2024, the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC), KISS-DU, and the School of Indigenous Knowledge, Science and Technology—Computer Science Programme organised a student seminar on the topic “Clean and Green Technologies for Sustainable Future” on May 11, 2024. This seminar, designed explicitly for M.Sc. Computer Science students aimed to engage them in a meaningful discussion about India’s technological achievements.
Bharati Naik, the first speaker, discussed the purpose of National Technology Day, which celebrates India’s scientific and technological achievements. It commemorates the successful nuclear tests in Pokhran on May 11, 1998. The theme, “School to Startups-Igniting Young Minds to Innovate,” highlights the importance of nurturing innovation from an early age. Key historical milestones include India’s independence in 1947, the establishment of ISRO and DAE in the 1960s, the first peaceful nuclear test in 1974, and the 1998 nuclear tests.
Tanushree Pradhan discussed India’s achievements in space exploration, defence, nuclear energy, IT, and pharmaceuticals. She also highlighted the profound impact that future concepts like AI, renewable energy, biotechnology, and quantum computing will have on society. This underscores the weight of our responsibility to address challenges like the skill gap and digital divide.
The seminar concluded with a powerful message, emphasising the need to continue fostering innovation and technological advancement. As we celebrate National Technology Day, let us remember its significance and the role it plays in acknowledging and appreciating India’s scientific and technological achievements.
