Biswanath Soren, belongs to Mayurbhanj district, Jashipur Block, under Podagorh Gram Panchayat Tingireani Villag in Odisha. He hails from a humble tribal family, raised with love, courage, and sacrifices by his mother, Mrs. Maloti Soren, and guided by the blessings of his late father, Mr. Baneswar Soren. His journey of receiving accessible quality education has never been easy. It has been a long path of struggles, challenges, and perseverance, but every difficulty shaped my strength and determination.
His educational journey began at Thakurgoda High School, after which he completed his Higher Secondary education from BJB Junior College. He then pursued his Graduation at BJB (Autonomous) College, Bhubaneswar, and later advanced his studies at Astha School of Management under BPUT, Rourkela, where he completed his Master of Business Administration (MBA). Each stage of education required dedication, discipline, and an unshakeable belief in the power of learning.
Before entering full-time research, he gained professional experience working in several private and government organizations. Dr. Soren initially served as a State Farmer Coordinator at the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), contributing to agricultural development and community programs. Later, he was employed by the State Government of Odisha as an Assistant Research Officer at NCDS (Nabakrushna Choudhury Centre for Development Studies), Bhubaneswar. These roles gave him valuable practical skills, field exposure, and insight into governance, research, and socio-economic development.
In 2021, his father passed away, leaving him feeling helpless and deeply affected. His guidance and support had always been Biswanath’s strength, and suddenly, he had to face the world without his father’s hand over his head. He joined KISS Deemed to be University when his life was sailing in troubled waters for his Ph.D. program, in 2021 which became his pillar of support, allowing him to continue his education and stay focused on his dream. The encouragement from his research Supervisor Dr. Snigdharani Panda (Associate Professor) and Co-Supervisor Dr. Shruti Sudha Mishra (Assistant Professor), who believed in him as a Research Scholar. While sharing his life journey with the KISS fraternity, Biswanath said that the constant love, support, mentoring and guidance from the Supervisor and Co-Supervisor helped him overcome his grief and refocus his life.
He added that his dream was always beyond administrative or routine office work. “My heart was drawn towards knowledge, research, and community upliftment. I wanted to contribute meaningfully to tribal development, forest-based livelihoods, and sustainable social transformation. This inner calling guided me toward achieving the highest academic excellence.
Through this journey, I built myself into a dedicated educationist and worked tirelessly to become the best in my field, ultimately achieving the highest academic degree. With consistent hard work, I have now successfully completed my Ph.D. Programme from KISS deemed to be University. This accomplishment is not just a degree it is a symbol of my resilience, sacrifices, and the dreams of my parents.
I specially express my heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Achyuta Samanta Sir, whose vision, guidance, and unwavering support provided me with the opportunity and environment to achieve my highest academic goals.”
Dr. Soren’s doctoral research focuses on Non-Timber Forest Products (NTFPs), tribal livelihoods, environmental sustainability, and digital transformation. My work reflects my identity, my culture, and my commitment to uplift tribal communities through research-based solutions.
“From a small tribal village in Mayurbhanj to working as a State Farmer Coordinator at CMO, serving as Assistant Research Officer in a State Government institution, and finally achieving a Ph.D. from a prestigious university, my life journey proves that background does not define destiny. Even in the hardest times, like losing my father, determination, courage, and the right support can turn grief into achievement.”, says Dr. Soren.
