A National Seminar entitled “Mahima Dharma and Darshana: Altruism Beyond Orthodoxy” was organized by the joint collaboration of Deshbandhu College, University of Delhi and Indian Council of Philosophical Research, New Delhi on 23rd and 24th May 2024. Around eighty research scholars and faculty members from University of Delhi, Jamia Millia Islamia, University of Nalanda, IIT Khadagpur, IIT Madras and different parts of the country and abroad participated in the deliberations on Mahima Dhrama and Bhima Bhoi.
The Seminar was inaugurated by Sri Bijoy Kumar Nayak, Joint Secretary to the Press of Hon’ble President of India and was presided over by Prof. Sachhidananda Mishra, Member-Secretary, ICPR, New Delhi. Prof. Godabarish Mishra of Nalanda International University presented the theme of the Seminar and Prof. Ishita Banerjee Dubey, E.I. College, Mexico delivered the keynote address.
From among the scholars, Prof. Jatindra Kumar Nayak, Professor Emeritus, KISS-DU, Prof. Kalidas Mishra, Prof. Panchanan Mohanty, Prof. Nishamani Kar, Prof. Fanindum Deo, Prof. Jyotirmaya Tripathy, Prof Umasankar Patra, Prof. Priyadarshi Pattnaik, Sri Satya Narayan Sahoo, Prof. Saroj Kumar Mahananda and many others presented their research papers and engaged in scholarly discussions. Prof. Harischandra Sahoo, Bhima Bhoi Research Chair, KISS-DU presented his paper entitled “Bhima Bhoi: The Tribal Poet-Philosopher”.
In the seminar different dimensions of Bhima Bhoi’s life, philosophy and literature was highlighted. In the valedictory session, Prof. Mrinal Miri, Former Chairman ICPR expressed his view to conduct more research on the tribal poet. Dr. Pooja Vyas, Programme Officer, ICPR, New Delhi offered word of thanks for all those who contributed to the success of the seminar. Dr. Subasini Barik, Associate Professor of Philosophy, Deshbandhu College, University of Delhi, the convener of the seminar expressed her thanks to all the resource persons, participants and the office staff of ICPR, New Delhi for the grand success of the programme.
