The Department of Geography, School of Tribal Resource Management (STRM), KISS-DU successfully organized a virtual Expert Lecture on 22nd November 2025 on the topic “Advancing Earth Observation for Multi-Hazard Disaster Analysis” by Dr. Surya Deb Chakraborty, Remote Sensing and GIS Scientist at the MBRSC Lab, University of Dubai. The event was held at the Training and Placement Cell with active participation from U.G students, P.G students, and Ph.D. scholars, along with faculty members of different departments.
The session began with a warm welcome address by Dr. Monalisha Mishra, HOD, Department of Geography followed by special remarks from the Dean of STRM, Dr. Arpana Premi Lina Oraon. The programme was coordinated by Dr. Monalisha Mishra, along with other faculty members of the School including Mrs. Saurava Goswamy, Dr. Somanath Mishra, and Dr. Kamal Kant Mishra from B.Voc programme, among others who joined virtually. The lecture provided deep insights into the applications of SAR (Synthetic Aperture Radar) and multispectral satellite data for analysing floods, landslides, cyclones, Glaciers, Volcano eruption and other disaster events. Students greatly benefited by gaining hands-on conceptual understanding of modern Earth Observation tools and their practical relevance in disaster management.
The programme concluded with a heartfelt Vote of Thanks delivered by Miss Sruti Khalkho.
