The Rovers and Rangers Wing and the NSS Volunteers of KISS Deemed to be University organised a unique Plantation Drive on 17th and 18th September 2024, respectively. The theme of the Plantation Drive was “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam”/ Plant4Mother. The initiative aimed at promoting environmental conservation while symbolically dedicating each plant to the nurturing spirit of mothers. The officials of the University, the Rovers and Rangers, the Youth Red Cross, and the NSS Wing of KISS-DU graced the event.

Professor Deepak Kumar Behera, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, KISS-DU inaugurated the plantation drive. In his address, Professor Behera highlighted the crucial role of trees in sustaining life on Earth and the symbolic importance of dedicating plants to mothers, who are the nurturers of life. He encouraged the participants to uphold the values of environmental stewardship and continue planting trees to foster a greener and healthier future.

On the first day of the plantation, the Rovers and Rangers paid heartfelt tribute to mothers through the symbolic act of planting trees, reflecting their nurturing spirit. The event was a powerful reminder of the bond between nature and motherhood. Each sapling planted by the volunteers, including medicinal and fruit-bearing plants, carried a message of love, care, and protection, much like a mother’s unwavering support. The volunteers planted 100 trees in honour of their mothers, with the Vice Chancellor urging them to not only honour their mothers but also safeguard the environment for future generations. The principal’s encouraging message further inspired the gathering to view nature as an extension of a mother’s nurturing care, making the event a profound celebration of life, love, and the enduring connection between nature and humanity.

On the second day of the plantation drive, the NSS Wing of KISS-DU planted 100 different medicinal plants, underscoring the importance of preserving Indigenous medicinal species for health and ecological balance. The “Plant 4 Mother” theme resonated deeply with participants, as each plant was viewed as a tribute to the nurturing power of motherhood, both symbolically and ecologically.

The event was a resounding success, fostering a sense of community responsibility towards environmental conservation. The plantation drive concluded with a collective pledge to care for the newly planted trees, ensuring their growth into mature, healthy plants. The participants also committed to continuing similar initiatives in the future, reinforcing KISS-DU’s dedication to the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations.
