The Tribal Advisory Council in collaboration with the Department of Santali, School of Comparative Tribal Languages and Literatures, KISS-DU successfully organized “Sagun Baha Bonga Midun 2026,” on 28th February 2026 to mark the vibrant cultural heritage of the Santal community.

Baha Bonga, one of the most significant festivals of the Santal community, is celebrated during the month of Falgun, between the fifth day of the new moon and the full moon. Known as the Festival of Nature, Baha Bonga reflects the deep spiritual and cultural connection of the Santal community with nature. During this sacred festival, devotees offer prayers to nature before partaking in newly blossomed flowers and freshly harvested fruits, symbolizing gratitude, renewal, and harmony with the environment.

The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation and wholehearted support from scholars, students, and faculty members of the Department of Santali, School of Comparative Tribal Languages and Literatures KISS Deemed to be University along with members of the Tribal Advisory Council. Their collective efforts ensured the grand success of the event, which highlighted the rich traditions, cultural values, and spiritual beliefs of the Santal community.

The organizers expressed their appreciation to all participants and reaffirmed their commitment to preserving and promoting indigenous cultural heritage through such meaningful initiatives.
