A distinguished invited lecture on Building Entrepreneurial Capacity at KISS” was held at Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) on 16th December 2024. The event was jointly organized by the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), the Center for Indigenous Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CIIE), and the School of Tribal Resource Management (STRM), KISS-DU. Dr. Hemant Merchant, Professor of Global Business, University of South Florida (USF) was invited as the esteemed speaker.

The session was graced by Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Professor Deepak Kumar Behera, Chairperson Council of Deans, Dean School of Tribal Resource Management, Faculty Members of the School and postgraduate students of Commerce, Geography, and Economics Departments.

Dr. Hemant Merchant began the lecture by emphasizing the importance of entrepreneurial capacity as a driver of socio-economic development. He outlined how students and young entrepreneurs can cultivate critical skills such as creativity, resilience, and effective problem-solving to thrive in competitive environments. Drawing on real-world examples, Dr. Merchant elaborated on strategies for identifying business opportunities, leveraging indigenous resources, and building sustainable ventures.  The lecture also delved deeply into practical issues faced by aspiring entrepreneurs, such as navigating financial constraints, overcoming market entry barriers, and addressing operational challenges. Dr. Merchant proposed actionable solutions to these challenges, including fostering collaborative networks, accessing mentorship programs, and utilizing technology to enhance business efficiency.  The session concluded with an engaging Q&A segment, where Dr. Merchant addressed doubts and queries raised by the students. He provided valuable insights into managing entrepreneurial risks, sustaining innovation, and adapting to market dynamics.

The session concluded with a Vote of Thanks to the esteemed speaker, senior functionaries from KISS, faculty members and others who contributed in making the session a grand success.
