The Bhagwan Birsa Munda Research Chair, KISS-DU organized a cultural evening on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Bhagwan Birsa Munda on 15th November 2023 with grandeur. The celebration honored the legendary tribal leader and freedom fighter, revered as a symbol of Indigenous pride and resilience.

The evening was filled with various cultural activities, beginning with a traditional tribal dance performance that showcased the rich heritage of the Indigenous communities. Students from different communities participated in the program, performing folk songs, dances, and the role play that depicted the life and struggles of Bhagwan Birsa Munda. The performances were a testament to the deep respect and admiration the tribal communities have for their hero.

In his address, the Vice Chancellor of KISS-DU Professor Deepak Kumar Behera, praised the students for their enthusiastic participation and reiterated the university’s commitment to empowering tribal communities through education. He highlighted the significance of Bhagwan Birsa Munda’s teachings in today’s context and encouraged the students to follow his path of courage and determination. The celebration concluded with a special tribute to Bhagwan Birsa Munda, wherein the Registrar of KISS-DU, Dr. Prashanta Kumar Routray, Deans, Directors, Faculties, Research Scholars and students were present.

The event was a fitting tribute to the great leader, whose legacy continues to inspire generations of tribal youth. The birth anniversary of Bhagwan Birsa Munda at KISS was not just a celebration but a reaffirmation of the institution’s dedication to the upliftment of tribal communities and the preservation of their rich cultural heritage.
