The Research & Development Cell (R&D Cell), KISS Deemed to be University, Bhubaneswar in collaboration with School of Comparative Indic Studies & Tribal Science (SCIST), Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), Centre for Indigenous Science & Technology and School of Indigenous Knowledge, Science & Technology (SIKST) jointly organized a Lecture on “Training on Technology Commercialization, Licensing and Transfer Practices & Strategy” on 13th August 2026. The objective of the programme was to create awareness among faculty members, research scholars and students on technology commercialisation processes, intellectual property licensing, technology transfer mechanisms and strategies to transform indigenous innovations into sustainable ventures.
The programme was coordinated by Research Scholars, Ms. Alisha Gamango, Research Scholar, Department of Zoology, School of CIST and Mr. Kusha Mandika, Ph.D. Research Scholar, Department of Computer Science, School of IKST. The programme commenced with the Welcome and Introduction by Ms. Linu Mundamajhi, Research Scholar, Department of Zoology, who extended a warm welcome to all the dignitaries, resource persons and participants and briefed about the theme of the lecture.
This was followed by Technical Session I by Dr. Vimal Kumar Pandey, Associate Professor & Dean, SCIST and Centre Head of Centre for Indigenous Science & Technology, KISS-DU, who deliberated on the concept of technology commercialization, its relevance in the context of indigenous and tribal knowledge systems, and the need for protecting traditional innovations through appropriate IPR mechanisms. Thereafter, Technical Session II was delivered by Mr. Atul Nag, Associate Professor, Department of Computer Science, KISS-DU, who provided an in-depth understanding of licensing types, technology transfer agreements, legal frameworks and strategic approaches for successful transfer of technology from institution to industry.
An interactive Question and Answer Session was held, where participants actively interacted with the resource persons and clarified their doubts regarding IPR, licensing and commercialization challenges. The programme concluded with Felicitation and Vote of Thanks proposed by Dr. Arpana Premi Lina Oraon, Director, Research & Development Cell, KISS-DU, who expressed sincere gratitude to all collaborators, resource persons and participants for making the programme a grand success.
The programme successfully sensitized the participants about the complete lifecycle of technology commercialization and equipped them with fundamental knowledge on licensing and transfer practices, which will be beneficial for their future research and innovation activities. Overall, the lecture was insightful, engaging and well-received by all participants, and the R&D Cell looks forward to organizing more such programmes to foster a strong research and innovation ecosystem in the University.
