The National Road Safety Day was observed on 27th January 2026 by the NSS Bureau, Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS), Deemed to be University, Bhubaneswar, Odisha. The program was organized to spread awareness about road safety and to sensitize youth towards responsible behavior on roads, in alignment with the theme “Sadak Suraksha – Jeevan Raksha.” The event was graced by esteemed dignitaries Professor Kashi Nath Jena, Pro-Vice Chancellor, KISS-DU; Dr. Prashanta Kumar Routray, Registrar, KISS-DU and Mr. Suvendu Kumar Mohanty, Additional Director Student Affairs, among others.
The program witnessed the active participation of nearly 300 NSS volunteers, along with faculty members, NSS Program Officers, and the NSS Coordinator, Dr. Parikshita Khatua. The program commenced with a speech on road safety by an NSS volunteer, highlighting the importance of traffic rules, safe driving practices, and the role of youth in preventing road accidents. This was followed by a melodious song on road safety, which conveyed strong messages about caution, responsibility, and the value of human life. To further strengthen the message of awareness on road safety, a Nukkad Natak (street play) was performed by the NSS volunteers. The act effectively portrayed real-life road accident scenarios and emphasized the consequences of reckless driving, drunk driving, and neglecting safety measures. Subsequently, slogans on road safety were recited in Hindi, Odia, and English, making the message inclusive and accessible to all. The event venue was vibrant with volunteers holding placards and banners displaying various slogans and awareness messages related to road safety and life protection.
Dr. Prashanta Kumar Routray, Registrar, KISS-DU, in his address shared valuable insights on the importance of road safety awareness and appreciated the efforts of NSS volunteers. He also emphasized that such awareness programs should be conducted at the community and village levels to reach a larger population and bring meaningful change. The program concluded with a short awareness rally within the KISS-DU campus, where volunteers marched holding placards and chanting slogans to reinforce the road safety message.
Overall, the observance of National Road Safety Day was a great success, leaving a strong impact on participants and reinforcing the commitment of NSS volunteers towards social responsibility and public safety. The entire program was coordinated by all the members of the NSS Bureau, KISS-DU.
