The National Service Scheme (NSS) Bureau of Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS), Deemed to be University observed the National Youth Day 2026 on 12th January 2026, commemorating the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda and reaffirming the ethos of youth-led nation building. NSS Programme Officers and volunteers from all the seven Schools under the University participated in this event.

The programme commenced with a song rendered by the NSS volunteers, which reflected the core values of dedication, discipline, and commitment to social welfare which was followed by reciting Vande Mataram to commemorate its 150 years to celebrate the spirit of Vande Mataram and its unique role in the history of India.

The Inaugural Address was delivered by Dr. Parikshita Khatua, Programme Coordinator, NSS Bureau, KISS Deemed to be University. In his deliberation, he outlined the objectives of the programme, emphasized the relevance of National Youth Day in contemporary society, and formally introduced the distinguished guests, highlighting the pivotal role of NSS in nurturing socially responsible youth.

This was followed by a felicitation ceremony honouring the esteemed dignitaries. Professor Kasi Nath Jena, Pro-Vice Chancellor, KISS-DU, delivered an inspiring address stressing on the need for refraining from negative qualities like ego and to cultivate integrity, scientific temperament, wisdom, and rational thinking. He powerfully reminded the students and other participants that “youth is not merely a matter of age; it is an attitude,” urging the youth of KISS-DU to develop character and moral courage as the core foundation of leadership.

Speaking in turn, Mr. Subhendu Kumar Mohanty, Additional Director, Students Affairs, emphasized on five D’s of success—Dream, Desire, Discipline, Dedication, and Determination. He motivated the students to proactively create opportunities rather than wait for them, aptly observing that a person without imagination is like a bird without wings.

The Chief Guest, Dr. Ramesh Chandra Behera, OES-I, SNO-cum-Deputy Secretary to Government, Department of Higher Education, Government of Odisha, delivered a thought-provoking address on the synthesis of knowledge and spiritualism. Through illustrative narratives, he elaborated on the roles and responsibilities of youth in society, underscoring ethical leadership, service to humanity, and social accountability. He concluded by appreciating the visionary initiatives of Prof. Achyuta Samanta at KISS.
