The KISS NDLI Club of KISS Deemed to be University observed National Librarians’ Day to commemorate the birth anniversary of Padmashri Dr. S.R Ranganathan, the Father of Library Science in India on 12th August 2024.
Professor Deepak Kumar Behera, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, KISS-DU shared with the gathering that KISS-DU is proud to introduce Library Science as a subject in the curricula from this academic year onwards and highlighted the seminal roe played by librarians’ across the country. He opined that Librarians are the pulse of a University. Professor Behera concluded by urging the research scholars to make the most out of the digital repository. Mr. Rabin Khandayatray, Chief Librarian, KISS-DU talked about the significance of the day. He shared the brief biography of Dr. Ranganathan and the five laws given by him in the context of digital libraries.
Dr. Prashanta Kumar Routray, Registrar, KISS-DU stressed on the fact that research scholars are now at an advantageous position as compared to the research scholars of yester years. Sharing his experiences as a research scholar, Dr. Routray said that there were issues related to accessibility to library. Things have changed in the last 30 years, he added. He talked about the digitization of the entire system and its advantages. He concluded by encouraging the research scholars to make maximum out of the available resources. Professor Harischandra Sahoo, Chair Professor, Bhima Bhoi, Research Chair, KISS-DU shared his views on the difference between knowledge and information. While appreciating the hard work of the librarians, he highlighted how they are well-equipped in preserving knowledge. A stimulating discussion by the faculty members and research scholars followed the deliberations.
Dr. Krupasindhu Nayak, Professor-Incharge Library, KISS-DU, proposed the formal Vote of Thanks, which was coordinated by Mr. Kalandi Charan Swain, Assistant Chief Librarian, KISS-DU.
