The School of Comparative Indic Studies and Tribal Science organized Cancer Awareness Programme on 7th November 2025, on the eve of National Cancer Awareness Day, to promote understanding of the causes, progression, therapies, and prevention of cancer.

The Dean of the School, Dr Vimal Kumar Pandey, who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, delivered an insightful address emphasizing the fundamental concepts of cancer origin, the distinction between normal and cancerous cells, and the significance of antioxidants in cancer prevention.

Dr. Sweta Arora, Head of the Department of Zoology, elaborated on the challenges associated with contemporary chemotherapy and radiation therapy. Dr. Rashmi Mohapatra, Head of the Department of Botany, highlighted the alarming rise in cancer incidence in India and underscored the need for advancements in therapeutic interventions to address this growing concern. Dr. Sweta Parida, Head of the Department of Food Science, presented an engaging talk on the critical role of diet in cancer progression and prevention. Dr. Debasish Mohapatra, Faculty of Zoology, discussed the influence of stromal cells in cancer development and the beneficial impact of yoga and physical exercise in alleviating cancer-related anxiety.

Students from both postgraduate and undergraduate programmes participated actively in the event, contributing to its success. To foster greater creative engagement, a quiz competition was conducted on the same theme. The postgraduate students also staged a moving drama titled “Echoes of Hope,” which artistically expressed their awareness, empathy, and commitment to the cause through enactment.
