The KISS-NDLI Club, KISS-DU observed National Librarians’ Day on 12th August 2025, commemorating the birth anniversary of Padmashri Dr. S.R. Ranganathan, the Father of Library Science in India. The programme commenced with a warm welcome address by Dr. Chittaranjan Bhoi, Professor-in-charge, Library. This was followed by an introduction of the Chief Guest, Dr. Satya Narayan Mishra, Assistant Director and Head, National Archieves of India, Bhubaneswar by Dr. Sujata Acharya, Dean, School of Tribal Heritage and Tribal Indology. Dr. Mishra emphasized the vital role of librarians in cultivating a reading culture and instilling a lifelong love for books in society.
Professor Debashis Bandyopadhyay, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, KISS-DU, delivered an insightful address on the evolution of libraries and the historical significance of books highlighting their role in preserving the collective human intellect. Professor Kashi Nath Jena, Pro Vice Chancellor, KISS-DU acknowledged the immense contribution of librarians in fostering an informed and enlightened society. Dr. Prashanta Kumar Routray, Registrar, KISS-DU, underlined the importance of effectively utilizing library resources to empower students and researchers.
The Chief Librarian, Mr. Rabin Kumar Khandayatray spoke on the purpose and significance of observing National Librarians’ Day. The event was coordinated by Mr. Kalandi Charan Swain, Assistant Chief Librarian. The highlight of the programme was the announcement of the “Reader of the Year Award – 2025” presented to Mr. Rabindra Murmu, Ph.D. Scholar, Department of Sociology in recognition of his outstanding engagement with library resources.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Shubhasmita Acharya, Assistant Professor, Department of Library and Information Science, KISS-DU. The celebration witnessed enthusiastic participation from research scholars, postgraduate students, students of the Department of Library and Information Science, Members of Library Committee, Dean of Schools, Faculty members of KISS-DU.
