KISS Deemed to be University (KISS-DU), Bhubaneswar, hosted a thought-provoking distinguished invited lecture titled “Shaping Knowledge Futures: The Expanding Horizon of Library and Information Science” on 21st December 2024. This lecture was jointly organized by the Centre for Sacred Groves and Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), KISS-DU in collaboration with the School of Tribal Heritage and Tribal Indology, KISS-DU. The event highlighted the expanding horizons of Library and Information Science with suitable and comprehensive interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary citations.

Prof. K.P. Singh, Professor, Department of Library and Information Science, University of Delhi and President of D.L.A, New Delhi was invited as the esteemed guest.

The program commenced with the opening remarks by Professor Deepak Kumar Behera, the Vice Chancellor of KISS-DU. A special video was screened showcasing KISS-DU’s mission of providing free education to tribal students, spearheaded by Professor Achyuta Samanta, its visionary Founder, and its recent entry, in partnership with Grammy award musician Ricky Kej, into the Guinness Book of World Records for the “Largest Singing Lesson”.Further, Dr. Manoj Kumar Behera, Associate Professor and Centre Head, Centre for Sacred Groves introduced the invited speaker Professor K.P. Singh.

Professor Singh captivated the audience with his address, sharing insights on the horizons of Library and Information Science’s vision of promoting wisdom and shaping knowledge’s future. He emphasized the need for a multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary approach to understanding as well as shaping knowledge futures and building up a knowledge society. Professor Singh talk about the pertinent areas under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 with focus on the inclusion of Indian Knowledge System.

The lecture concluded with a Q&A session and closing remarks. The event was an outstanding success, fostering dialogues on the importance of shaping knowledge futures, and inspiring students and educators alike.

The event ended with a word of thanks by Dr. Madhubrata Mishra, H.o.D., Department of Home Science, School of Tribal Heritage and Tribal Indology, KISS-DU.
