The Department of Geography under School of Tribal Resource Management (STRM) organized a visit to the Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) Deemed to be University Library on 22nd October 2024. This visit aimed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the resources available at the KISS Library and familiarize them with the advanced features of the Digital Library facilities.
Mr. Rabin Kumar Khandayatray, Chief librarian, led the group through an informative session, highlighting the significance of the library’s resources in supporting academic and research excellence. Mr. Rabin began his presentation by explaining the organizational structure of the library, including its extensive collection of books, journals E-Resources and research papers across various disciplines, with a special focus on materials relevant to the field of geography and environmental studies. He elaborated on the diverse collection of books and periodicals in the Geography section, which covers topics such as cartography, climatology, geomorphology, and environmental management. Digital Library Facilities highlight of the visit was the orientation on the Digital Library facilities at KISS Deemed to be University. Mr. Rabin demonstrated the e-library system, showcasing access to thousands of digital resources, including e-books, academic journals, and research databases that are accessible both on-campus and remotely.
Students were given a practical demonstration on how to search for e-resources, access digital publications, and make use of online research tools. Mr. Rabin also informed students about special databases and academic platforms like JSTOR, ScienceDirect, and others that the library subscribes to, which provide valuable resources for academic research and coursework. He also introduced the online thesis repository, where students can access previous research work, aiding in literature reviews and developing their research methodology.
Students of Post-Graduation expressed their gratitude to Mr. Rabin for his comprehensive and enlightening session and to Dr. Arpana Premi Lina Oraon, Head of the Department and Dean of STRM for organizing and leading this visit.
