The Department of Geography, School of Tribal Resource Management (STRM), KISS-DU, celebrated the 2nd National Space Day on 23rd August 2025 to mark the historic achievement of Chandrayaan-3’s successful soft landing on the Moon’s south pole in 2023.The programme began with a warm Welcome Address by Dr. Monalisha Mishra, Head of the Department of Geography, who highlighted the importance of National Space Day and this year’s theme, Aryabhatta to Gaganyaan: Ancient Wisdom to Infinite Possibilities.” She emphasized how space technology has revolutionized the field of geography by enhancing environmental monitoring, disaster management, and climate studies.

The occasion was graced by Mr. Subhendu Kumar Mohanty, Additional Director, Student Affairs, KISS-DU, as the Chief Guest. In his inspiring address, he explained the idea of “Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow”, stressing the need to value the present and work with dedication to shape a better tomorrow. Dr. Arpana Premi Lina Oraon, Dean of STRM, encouraged students to aim high and nurture both academic and personal excellence. Dr. Somanath Mishra, Assistant Professor, B.Voc., further motivated students with his insights on preparing for future opportunities with determination and resilience. Adding an academic spark to the event, Mr. Ajoy Chakma, U.G 2nd year Geography student, presented an informative talk on the Chandrayaan-3 mission, its objectives, achievements, and significance for India’s space journey. A beautifully designed space model, prepared by P.G 2nd year Geography students, became the highlight of the programme and received great appreciation from everyone.

The event saw the active participation of faculty members including Dr. Anwesha Chakraborty, Mrs. Saurabha Goswami, and Dr. Binita Nanda who represented various departments under STRM, among others. It was well coordinated by Mr. Chandrai Murmu, P.G 2nd year Geography student, and concluded with a heartfelt Vote of Thanks by Dr. Anwesha Chakraborty, who acknowledged the enthusiasm and teamwork of both students and faculty in making the programme a memorable success.

The celebration not only paid tribute to India’s achievements in space exploration but also inspired students to dream big, think beyond boundaries, and contribute to the nation’s growing leadership in space science.
