A collaboration agreement was signed today between UNESCO’ Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Education for Peace (MGIEP) and KIIT-KISS to advance the vision of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4.7.

The agreement was signed in New Delhi at a special programme in the presence of Dr. Achyuta Samanta, Founder of KIIT & KISS, and Prof. Obijiofor Aginam, Director of UNESCO MGIEP. At the round table meeting on ‘Education for Peace’ in India, Dr. Samanta participated and highlighted the role of education in social development. Both sides stated that education is the most powerful tool to build a better world, and they are moving forward together with this belief.

With this partnership, both sides will work together to initiate youth-led group projects to address SDG challenges, and to develop impactful curricula in the areas of Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) as well as Media and Information Literacy.

MGIEP is UNESCO’s Category 1 Research Institute focused on Transforming Education towards SDG 4.7.

Under the partnership, the institutions will collaborate on developing and rolling out credit-awarding courses in Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) and Media & Information Literacy, as well as launching youth-led community projects to address SDG challenges.

Special focus will be on equipping young people with the skills necessary for building peaceful and sustainable societies.

The discussions in the programme revolved around how, in line with SDG 4.7, education can promote empathy, compassion, and critical thinking to create peaceful, inclusive, and sustainable societies
