The Centre for Women’s Studies, in collaboration with the Centre for Folklore Studies, School of Comparative Tribal Languages and Literatures (SCTLL), KISS Deemed to be University, organised a programme to celebrate International Women’s Day on 7th March 2026 at 4:00 PM at the Training and Placement Centre, KISS Deemed to be University, Bhubaneswar. The programme aimed to commemorate the spirit of women’s empowerment and to highlight the importance of gender equality, dignity, and respect for women in society. The event witnessed the presence of faculty members, students, and distinguished guests. The discussions revolved around Sustainable Development Goal 5 and how the Agenda 2030 can be met.
The programme commenced with a Welcome Address by Dr. Pragyan Mohanty, Dean, school of Tribal Legal Studies and Tribal Rights (STLTR) and Centre Head, Centre for Women’s Studies and Associate Professor, KISS Deemed to be University. In her address, she highlighted the significance of celebrating International Women’s Day and emphasised the need to recognise the invaluable contributions of women in various fields. She also spoke about the importance of creating an inclusive and supportive environment that encourages the empowerment and advancement of women in society.
Following the welcome address, the students presented a beautiful cultural dance performance, which added colour and vibrancy to the celebration. The performance reflected themes of strength, resilience, and the cultural richness associated with womanhood. After the cultural programme, Dr. Nibedita Mohanty, Faculty of the School of Comparative Tribal Languages and Literatures (SCTLL), coordinated the Poem Recitation event organised for the same where the students meticulously recited self-composed poems.
The programme concluded with Concluding Remarks and Vote of Thanks by Dr. Rasmita Tripathy, Centre Head, Centre for Folklore Studies and Associate Professor, KISS Deemed to be University. She appreciated the collaborative effort of the organising centres and expressed gratitude to the participants, faculty members, and students for their enthusiastic involvement in making the programme meaningful and successful. The event was also graced by the presence of the Registrar of KISS Deemed to be University and Deans whose presence added significance to the occasion. The celebration of International Women’s Day at KISS Deemed to be University successfully highlighted the importance of recognising women’s achievements and reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to promoting gender equality, respect, and empowerment within the academic community.
