The Philosophy Programme, School of Tribal Culture, Philosophy and Eco Spiritualism (STCPE) organised an Indian Council of Philosophical Research (ICPR), New Delhi sponsored Distinguished Invited Lecture on International Yoga Day on 23rd July 2024. The theme of the lecture was ‘Yoga and Philosophy and Practice’.
In his welcome address, Dr Prashanta Kumar Routray, Registrar, KISS-DU, explained the importance and significance of yoga in daily life. Professor Tapan Kumar De of Vidyasagar University delivered the distinguished lecture on ‘Ahimsa in Yoga Philosophy: The Yoga & Practice’. He discussed how Ahimsa is the means to the attainment of Yoga. He cited the examples of Mahatma Gandhi and Sri Chaitanya while explaining the various intricacies of the topic.
Joining virtually, Professor Sambasiva Prasad, Former Professor at Sri Venkateswara University, Tirupati, spoke on different facets of yoga for the Holistic Development of Man. In this context, he also spoke at length about Sankhya Metaphysics and Astanga Yoga.
Professor Harischandra Sahoo, Chair Professor, Bhima Bhoi Research Chair, KISS-DU, delivered a talk on “Integral Yoga of Mahayogi Sri Aurobindo,” and Professor S.C. Panigrahi, Professor Emeritus, highlighted the concept of Yoga in the Bhagavad Gita. He elaborated on how Yoga is linked to everyday life and stressed that equanimity of mind is the essence of Yoga.
The Convenor of International Yoga Day 2024, Dr. Malaya Kumar Bhoi, coordinated the entire programme. He discussed the origin and development of Yoga Philosophy from ancient times to today and highlighted Patanjali’s Yoga Sutra, Hatha Yoga, Raja Yoga, and Yoga in the modern era.
Dr. Ratnakar Mohapatra, Dean of the STCPE, proposed a vote of thanks.
