Hon’ble Judge of the International Court of Justice Dr. Dalveer Bhandari was conferred with the Lifetime Achievement Award by Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) on the occasion of the National Law Day at KISS premises on 26th November, 2017. He was conferred with the prestigious award for his outstanding contribution in the field of human rights awareness.

Smt. Saswati Bal, President of KIIT & KISS presented the award before Prof. Achyuta Samanta, Founder of KIIT & KISS, and an audience of 27,000 indigenous students of the institute along with a host of dignitaries including ICJ Judge Mr. Augusto Cançado Trindade; Dr. Dnyaneshwar M. Mulay, Secretary (CPV & OIA) and H.E. Mr. Debraj Pradhan, Ambassador of India to Norway.

“I am humbled to accept this award as it has the Goodwill and soul of 27000 children”, Justice Bhandari said. While addressing the gathering, he highly appreciated the selfless deeds of Dr. Samanta and thanked the KISS authorities for the award.

Remarkably, Judge Bhandari was first elected to the ICJ, the principal judicial organ of the U.N., in 2012 for the remainder term of a judge who quit prematurely. He was re-elected to the post on November 20 and his new full term of nine years will begin on February 6, 2018. A native of Rajasthan, Judge Bhandari was a sitting judge of the Supreme Court of India, when the government nominated him as a candidate for the ICJ first.
