On the occasion of the 150th birth anniversary of Bhagwan Birsa Munda, a revered tribal freedom fighter and revered spiritual leader, Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) Deemed to be University paid tribute to the legend by garlanding the statue of Bhagwan Birsa Munda which has been instituted on the university premises. This special event was marked by the presence of Professor Deepak Kumar Behera, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, KISS-DU, Dr. Prashanta Kumar Routray, Registrar of KISS-DU, Professor Jnyana Ranjan Mohanty, KIIT Deemed to be University, Dr. Arpana Premi Lina Oraon, Research Chair of Bhagwan Birsa Munda, esteemed Research Chair Professors of KISS-DU and Core Committee Members, Faculty and Staff.
The ceremony began with a reverent garlanding of Bhagwan Birsa Munda’s statue, symbolizing deep respect and recognition for his invaluable contributions to the tribal community and India’s independence movement. In the spirit of unity and homage, attendees reflected on his enduring influence as a champion of justice, equality, and indigenous rights.
Speaking at the event, dignitaries and senior functionaries highlighted the philosophy and teachings of Bhagwan Birsa Munda. They underscored his unwavering courage and resilience in resisting colonial exploitation and emphasized how his ideals continue to inspire the present generation. This tribute was not just a remembrance of a heroic leader but also a call to action, inspiring students and staff alike to work tirelessly for the upliftment of Indigenous community and to walk the path of justice, equality, and cultural pride that Bhagwan Birsa Munda envisioned.
