The Dr. Ambedkar Chair at Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) Deemed to be University successfully organized a Distinguished Lecture on “Human Rights and Environmental Values for the Holistic Development of Marginalised Communities: An Ambedkarite Perspective” on 25th March 2026 at the University Auditorium, Campus-4.
The lecture was delivered by Prof. Kanhaiya Tripathi, Chair Professor, Dr. Ambedkar Chair, Central University of Punjab and Special Mentor, Human Rights Advisory, Government of India. In his deeply insightful address, Prof. Tripathi elaborated on the enduring relevance of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar’s philosophy, particularly his vision of social justice, equality and inclusive development. He highlighted Ambedkar’s pioneering role in shaping constitutional democracy in India, emphasizing the importance of justice, liberty, equality and fraternity as foundational values. Drawing connections between human rights and environmental sustainability, he underscored the need for a balanced and ethical approach to development, especially for the upliftment of marginalized communities. Prof. Tripathi also spoke extensively on women empowerment stressing that true societal progress is incomplete without gender equality. Urging the audience to imbibe Ambedkar’s ideals in both thought and action, he called for a collective commitment to building a just and equitable society.
Earlier, Dr. Chittaranjan Bhoi, Chair Professor, Dr. Ambedkar Chair, KISS-DU delivered the welcome address. He introduced the distinguished speaker and aptly set the tone for the lecture by emphasizing the contemporary relevance of Ambedkarite thought. He also highlighted how the visionary Founder of KIIT and KISS, Prof. (Dr.) Achyuta Samanta has translated Dr. B. R. Ambedkar’s philosophy into meaningful action through the inclusive and transformative educational model of KISS. He highlighted that KISS stands today as a living embodiment of Ambedkar’s ideals empowering marginalized communities through education, dignity and opportunity.
The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from around 170 attendees, including senior functionaries, faculty members, research scholars and students who actively engaged in an interactive session with the speaker.
The event ended with a formal vote of thanks proposed by Dr. Bhoi, who expressed gratitude to Prof. Tripathi for his enlightening discourse and appreciated the participants for their active involvement in making the programme a grand success.
