Following the University-level Orientation Programme, the School of Indigenous Knowledge, Science and Technology (SIKST) at KISS Deemed to be University organized the Deeksharambh Programme (Induaction Programme) for the newly admitted first-year postgraduate students of Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Computer Science on 12th September 2024.
The programme was attended by Heads, faculty members, and newly admitted students from the respective disciplines. The event aimed to familiarize students with academic policies, course curriculum, examination patterns, institutional guidelines, and available resources to ensure a seamless transition into postgraduate studies.
The session was hosted by Dr. Pankajini Tripathy, who set an engaging tone for the proceedings.
The orientation began with a welcome address by Dr. Srinibas Panda, Dean, SIKST, who emphasized the importance of interdisciplinary learning and institutional values in shaping students’ academic journeys. This was followed by Dr. Bikram Keshari Das, Head, Chemistry, who introduced students to KISS-DU, offering insights into the institution’s mission, vision, academic framework, and research opportunities.
As the session progressed, Dr. Mrutyunjay Nayak, Head, Physics, provided an overview of the course curriculum, elaborating on the subject-specific topics and key areas covered in the postgraduate program. Dr. Sushant Kumar Mohapatra, Head, Mathematics, then detailed the examination patterns, grading system, and assessment criteria, ensuring that students understood academic expectations.
An essential part of the programme was the Anti-Ragging Awareness session, conducted to inform students about the university’s strict policies and ethical responsibilities regarding campus safety. Faculty members discussed relevant legal provisions, reinforcing the institution’s commitment to a ragging-free environment that fosters mutual respect and inclusivity.
Institutional rules and digital learning platforms were then introduced by Er. Atul Nag, Head, Computer Science, who highlighted key academic guidelines, along with resources such as the Swayam Portal, designed to support students’ learning experiences.
The other distinguished speakers were, Dr. Yasobanta Das, Associate Professor, Chemistry & Principal, KISS Higher Secondary School; Dr. Snigdhararani Panda, Chairperson, Council of Deans; Dr. Anirban Bandopadhyay and Dr. Priyoneel Basu, Director, Research and Dean, SCISTS.
An interactive student-faculty session, moderated by Dr. Sushant Kumar Mohapatra, provided students with an opportunity to engage with faculty members, address queries, and seek academic guidance. The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Subhra Gantayat, Physics, expressing gratitude to the speakers, faculty members, and students for their active participation.
The Deeksharambh Programme successfully acquainted postgraduate students with institutional policies, faculty support, students’ support facilities and structured learning approaches, fostering an academically enriching environment at SIKST, KISS-DU.
