The Youth Red Cross and Rovers and Rangers, KISS-DU jointly observed Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Week at Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) Deemed to be University on 28th July 2024. The training session was conducted by the team of doctors from Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS).

The Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Week was observed and a total of 200 enthusiastic volunteers participated in the training session. The session aimed at creating awareness, educating and training the students on the importance and techniques of CPR training. This was initiated with the objective of teaching CPR was a vital life saving skills.

The programme commenced with a Welcome Speech by Professor Namita Mohanty, Professor Emerita who welcomed all the Doctor trainers from KIMS Hospital. The Chief Guest, Professor Manas Ranjan Behera, along with Professor Shivbrata Patnaik, Professor Bandya Sahu, Dr. Mukesh Jain and special invitee Professor Nirmal Kumar Mohakud, emphasized the importance of CPR training for youth volunteers.

Expert trainers conducted comprehensive sessions, including an introduction to CPR, hands-on training with step-by-step demonstrations, and instructions on using Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs). Participants were divided into small groups for practical demonstrations and personalized practice. An interactive Q&A session presented the volunteers an opportunity to clarify doubts and gain deeper insights into CPR.

Dr. Tripura Mishra, Chief Warden of the girls’ hostel, inspired all the volunteers to participate in large number. Mrs. Manasi Chandra Nayak, Ranger Leader of KISS-DU, Bedamati Patanaik, YRC Coordinator, and Mrs. Debahuti Patnaik motivated the students during the training.

The event received overwhelming positive feedback, with volunteers expressing gratitude for the invaluable training, which boosted their confidence in handling emergencies.

Fulamani Majhi, a PG 2nd-year student and Ranger volunteer, asked a question to the doctors related to saving lives. She later remarked that “The CPR training was enlightening and empowering. I feel more prepared to act in emergencies now.” Further she also added, “The hands-on practice and detailed explanations were incredibly helpful. This training can truly make a difference in saving lives.”
