On March 22, 2025, the School of Tribal Resource Management, Program of Geography at KISS-DU organised a World Water Day event to raise awareness about the importance of freshwater conservation. This year’s theme, “Glacier Preservation,” emphasized glaciers’ critical role in maintaining global water supplies and the urgent need for conservation efforts in the face of climate change.  This event aims to raise awareness about the importance of freshwater and advocate for its sustainable management, encouraging action to address water-related issues and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.

The event began with PG final-year student Raju Urlaka welcoming the attendees. Dr. Monalisha Mishra, Assistant Professor, introduced the theme and highlighted the significance of glaciers in ensuring freshwater availability.

Students actively participated in various activities to spread awareness about water conservation. Postgraduate students performed a drama illustrating the importance of saving water, while undergraduates creatively demonstrated water conservation techniques through a cricket match. Ajoy Kumar Chakma and Chandrai Murmu gave an insightful presentation on the importance of water for both human life and ecosystems. Goutam Bhuyan, Hemlata Majhi, Bijay Singh and Kunu Marandi shared their thoughts on water conservation and the need to protect glaciers. Additionally, Maheswar Patra, a student from the geography program, recited a poem dedicated to saving water.

Esteemed faculty members graced the event: Dr. Arpana Premi Lina Oraon (Dean, STRM & Director Research, KISS-DU), Dr. Anwesha Chakrabarty (Assistant Professor of Geography), Mrs. Saurava Goswamy (Lecturer in Geography), Dr. Sanjeeta Kumari Devi (Assistant Professor of Economics), Dr. Sushree Panda, Dr. Kharabela Rout, and Dr. Somnath Mishra (Assistant Professor of B.Voc.). They shared their insights on the significance of water conservation and inspired students to take action toward sustainable water management.

The event concluded with Mrs. Saurava Goswamy summarizing key takeaways, followed by a formal vote of thanks delivered by Dhani Murmu.

Through this initiative, students and faculty reaffirmed their commitment to protecting water resources and promoting sustainable water management practices.
