Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences – Deemed to be University (KISS-DU) proudly hosted a two-day public awareness program on November 2–3, 2023, in collaboration with the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) and the Institute of Physics (IOP), Bhubaneswar. Designed to promote scientific literacy among tribal students, the event aligned with the recommendations of the reconstituted Joint Hindi Consultative Committee of the Department of Atomic Energy and Department of Space, advocating outreach in Hindi to underserved communities. More than 400 senior secondary students from Classes X to XII participated in the program, which featured an engaging combination of film screenings, expert presentations, hands-on demonstrations, and interactive competitions. Sessions conducted entirely in Hindi included a short documentary on DAE’s societal contributions, a comprehensive presentation by Scientific Officers from IOP—Dr. K.C. Patra, Dr. Vishwajit Malik, and Shri Makrand Siddhabhatti—and a lively quiz competition with shields and certificates awarded to top performers.
A faculty-led lecture on the “Applications of Radiation” provided additional academic depth, allowing students to explore the real-world implications of nuclear science. The entire event exemplified the intersection of academic excellence and social responsibility that defines KISS-DU’s mission. The hospitality and organization of the university earned heartfelt appreciation from Mr. Sunil Ganju, Secretary of the Hindi Consultative Committee, DAE, who conveyed his gratitude in a formal letter, recognizing the inclusive spirit and effectiveness of the initiative. Vice Chancellor Professor Deepak Kumar Behera praised the impact of the collaboration and expressed enthusiasm for continuing such partnerships to foster a culture of inquiry and innovation among tribal students. The program concluded with an awards ceremony celebrating student achievement and reaffirming KISS-DU’s commitment to holistic and inclusive education.
