The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), Bengaluru had organized a webinar on the topic Implementation of National Education Policy – 2020 in Higher Education: Opportunities and Challenges Ahead in a blended-mode on 6th January 2023 in Bengaluru. Professor V.N Rajasekharan Pillai, Vice Chancellor Somaiya Vidyavihar University, Mumbai was invited to address the gathering. In his address, he discussed the transformations that one can expect in the country’s educational system by the implementation of NEP – 2020, role of technology in the implementation of NEP in HEIs, will drop out students be encouraged to return to mainstream education. While talking about the Gross Enrollment Ratio, he said that, the GER should reach 50% by 2030. Professor Pillai touched upon National Research Foundation, Curriculum Framework, Adult Education under NEP, Internationalization of Education, Research Culture, Academic Bank of Credits (ABC), 4-year Integrated Course with 1-year Research, Documenting of success stories from NEP, E-Professors of Practice, Double Majors and Teaching Vs. Research. He suggested that all the institutions should have a thoughtfully-designed Institutional Development Plan (IDP) and focus on the Capacity Building Programmes for the teachers. Over 50 participants across the country attended physically whereas over 1000 participants joined virtually. The webinar was organized and coordinated by Professor Punmudiraj, Advisor NAAC, Bengaluru.
