The NSS Bureau of KISS Deemed to be University, in collaboration with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), KISS-DU, and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL), observed Vigilance Awareness Week on 26th October 2026, with the objective of sensitizing students to the importance of integrity, transparency, accountability, and ethical conduct in building a corruption-free and developed India.

The programme commenced with the NSS volunteers singing the NSS song, which reflected the spirit of service, discipline, unity, and social responsibility. This was followed by the welcome address delivered by Dr. Parikshit Khatua, Programme Coordinator, NSS Bureau, KISS-DU. In his address; he welcomed the dignitaries, faculty members, and NSS volunteers and highlighted the importance of creating awareness about vigilance and ethical values among young people.

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Sandeep Kumar, Senior Manager, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL), elaborated on the background and significance of vigilance, its major activities, and its role in promoting transparency and accountability in public institutions. He also referred to the Transparency International Report and the Corruption Perceptions Index, explaining their relevance in understanding perceptions of corruption and the need to strengthen institutional integrity, ethical governance, and public trust. His address encouraged students to recognize corruption as a major impediment to inclusive development and responsible citizenship.

Mr. Kundan Kumar emphasized the significance of observing Vigilance Awareness Week as a means of promoting ethical awareness and collective responsibility. He highlighted that vigilance should not be limited to institutional mechanisms but must also become an integral part of individual behaviour. He encouraged students to practice honesty, resist unethical practices, and contribute to the creation of a society founded on moral values and accountability.

Dr. Chittaranjan Bhoi, Chair Professor, Ambedkar Chair, and Dr. Snigdharani Panda, Joint Registrar, KISS-DU, highlighted the importance of vigilance in achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat. They emphasized that the development of the nation depends not only on economic progress and infrastructural growth but also on honesty, transparency, responsible governance, and the active participation of citizens. They encouraged the students to uphold integrity in their academic and personal lives and to become responsible citizens who contribute to nation-building through ethical conduct and social commitment.

An Integrity Pledge was subsequently administered to the participants, reaffirming their commitment to honesty, transparency, and the fight against corruption. The pledge served as an important reminder that the promotion of integrity begins with individual responsibility and must be reflected in everyday actions, decisions, and interactions.

As part of the programme, prizes were distributed to the winners of the Rangoli Competition organized on the theme “Vigilance for Viksit Bharat.” The competition provided a creative platform for students to communicate the values of vigilance, integrity, transparency, and accountability through artistic expression.

The programme also featured a Nukkad Natak (street play) presented by NSS volunteers, which received considerable appreciation from the audience. Through an engaging and thought-provoking performance, the volunteers highlighted the harmful consequences of corruption and emphasised the need for honesty, accountability, and collective action. The performance demonstrated the effectiveness of street theatre as a medium of social communication, enabling students to disseminate important messages and encourage public awareness through creative expression.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Dr. Jhunubala Khuntia, Programme Officer, NSS Bureau, KISS-DU. She expressed her sincere gratitude to the dignitaries, representatives of HPCL, the university administration, IQAC, faculty members, NSS Programme Coordinator, Programme Officers, and NSS volunteers for their valuable contributions and active participation in making the programme meaningful and successful.
