The Department of Geography, School of Tribal Resource Management (STRM), KISS Deemed to be University, in association with the Department of Renewable Energy, and in collaboration with the Centre for the Study of Indigenous Peoples across the Globe (CSIPG), Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), and Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC), organized a programme to observe World Ozone Day 2026 on the theme “Protecting the Ozone Layer for a Better Tomorrow.”
The programme aimed to create awareness among students about the significance of the ozone layer, its role in protecting life on Earth from harmful ultraviolet radiation, and the importance of collective efforts towards environmental protection and sustainable development.
The programme was graced by Dr. Arpana Premi Lina Oraon, Dean, School of Tribal Resource Management (STRM), KISS Deemed to be University, as the Chief Guest. Her presence encouraged the students and highlighted the importance of environmental awareness and responsible action among the younger generation.
The event was coordinated by Dr. Monalisha Mishra, HoD, Department of Geography, and Dr. Somnath Mishra, Department of Renewable Energy, with active support from the collaborating centres and faculty members. As part of the celebration, various competitions were organized for students to encourage their creativity, participation and understanding of ozone layer protection and environmental conservation. Students enthusiastically participated in the activities and presented their ideas on the importance of safeguarding the environment. The winners of the competitions were felicitated with prizes, recognizing their enthusiasm and efforts.
The programme provided an interactive platform for students to understand the environmental challenges associated with ozone depletion and the need for sustainable practices. It also reinforced the message that environmental protection requires awareness, innovation and collective responsibility.
The programme concluded with a Vote of Thanks delivered by Dr. Monalisha Mishra, HoD, Department of Geography. She expressed her sincere gratitude to the Chief Guest, Dr. Arpana Premi Lina Oraon, for her valuable presence and encouragement, and thanked the Department of Renewable Energy, CSIPG, IQAC, IIC, faculty members and students for their active participation and support.
The World Ozone Day 2026 celebration reiterated KISS-DU’s commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with a special focus on SDG-13 Climate Action, SDG-12 Responsible Consumption and Production, and SDG-3 Good Health and Well-Being. It emphasised that protecting the ozone layer is a shared responsibility and an important step toward building a healthier, safer, and more sustainable future.
