The Department of Sanskrit, School of Comparative Tribal Languages and Literatures, KISS Deemed to be University, celebrated World Sanskrit Day on 28th August 2026, which coincided with the full-moon day of the month of Śrāvaṇa. The programme was attended by students and teachers from the School of Tribal Languages and Literature (SCTLL), KISS-DU.
The programme was presided over by Dr. Biraj Krushna Mishra, HoD, Department of Sanskrit. He introduced the guests and explained the importance of this celebration. Dr. Trupti Mishra, former HoD, Department of Sanskrit welcomed the gathering and emphasized the significance of Sanskrit as an important component of India’s linguistic and cultural heritage. Dr. Snigdha Rani Panda, Joint Registrar, KISS-DU, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. She congratulated the students and encouraged them to bring out their creative potential by engaging with Sanskrit literature and its rich intellectual tradition.
Dr. Chittaranjan Bhoi, Dean, SCTLL, KISS-DU, enthralled the audience by highlighting the linguistic traditions of the country and reciting selected verses from Sanskrit literature. Dr. Anil Kumar Mishra, Associate Professor, Department of English, emphasized the responsibility of preserving and promoting Sanskrit, drawing attention to several relevant examples from the Sanskrit tradition of Bharat.
Sri Om Prakash Das, faculty member, Department of Sanskrit, proposed the vote of thanks and expressed his gratitude to all the participants and guests for making the celebration meaningful and memorable.
The programme concluded with the chanting of Śānti Pāṭha. Dr. Rashmita Tripathy, former Dean, SCTLL and HoD, Odia had graced the occasion. The students and scholars also delivered speeches in Sanskrit and presented songs relevant to the occasion. Their enthusiastic participation added intellectual as well as cultural significance to the celebration. The programme thus provided an opportunity to reflect upon the enduring relevance of Sanskrit and its contribution to the linguistic, literary and cultural heritage of India.
