Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) Deemed to be University celebrated its 9th Foundation Day on 25 August 2026, marking another milestone in its inspiring journey of empowering tribal communities through education. The occasion was filled with pride, gratitude, and reflection on the University’s remarkable transformation from a humble initiative for tribal children into a unique educational ecosystem offering a seamless pathway from school to college and university under one roof.
As the world’s first university exclusively dedicated to tribal students, KISS-DU continues to uphold its mission of providing completely free residential education while nurturing generations of learners into confident and responsible citizens. The achievements of thousands of KISS graduates, who have established successful careers and meaningful lives, stand as a testament to the institution’s founding vision that no child should be denied education and opportunity because of poverty.
The Foundation Day celebrations featured a vibrant blend of academic, cultural, and community-oriented activities organized by the University’s seven Schools. Exhibitions showcased products from the Vocational Unit, achievements of the Sports Wing, and initiatives undertaken by the NSS, Rovers and Rangers, and Youth Red Cross (YRC) Units. Visitors also explored displays of traditional tribal musical instruments and innovative products developed under the KISS STI Hub Project. The occasion further witnessed the unveiling of a Wall Magazine and a presentation of academic publications authored by faculty members and students.
One of the highlights of the celebration was the Tribal Costume and Heritage Parade, which showcased a rich array of tribal textiles and ornaments. Accompanied by insights into their historical and cultural significance, the parade reflected the University’s enduring commitment to preserving and promoting indigenous heritage and traditions.
Addressing students and staff during the second half of the programme, Dr. Achyuta Samanta, Founder of KISS, KIIT, and KIMS, extended his blessings and words of encouragement, inspiring the KISS community to continue striving for excellence and service. The event was graced by distinguished dignitaries, including Padma Shri Adwaita Gadanayak, Director General, KIIT Art Academy; Prof. Saranjit Singh, Vice Chancellor of KISS-DU and KIIT-DU; Dr. Jnyana Ranjan Mohanty, Pro Vice Chancellor-cum-Registrar, KIIT-DU; and Dr. Prashanta Kumar Routray, Registrar, KISS-DU. They were joined by Core Committee Members of KISS, Deans, senior functionaries, faculty members, staff, and students.
The celebration concluded with heartfelt greetings and best wishes to all KISSians, alumni, faculty members, staff, and well-wishers. More than a commemoration of nine years of institutional growth, the occasion reaffirmed KISS-DU’s unwavering commitment to academic excellence, cultural preservation, and the holistic empowerment of tribal communities. NSS Unit of School of Tribal Resource Management Celebrates 9th Foundation Day of KISS-DU
The 9th Foundation Day of KISS Deemed to be University was celebrated with great enthusiasm. The NSS STRM Unit, with Programme Officer Rudrashree Ramayan Sasmal, in collaboration with the NSS KISS-DU Bureau and Programme Coordinator Dr. Parikshit Khatua,
participated in the celebration by showcasing the remarkable achievements and contributions of NSS students over the years.
The programme highlighted the dedication, leadership, and social-service initiatives undertaken by NSS volunteers, reflecting the spirit of “Not Me But You.” The celebration provided an opportunity to acknowledge their achievements and inspire students to continue contributing towards society and the nation.
