The National Science Day was observed with great enthusiasm on 28th February 2026 at 4:00 PM in the Auditorium, Campus-IV of KISS Deemed to be University. The programme was jointly organized by the School of Indigenous Knowledge, Science and Technology (SIKST) and the School of Comparative Indic Studies and Tribal Science (SCIST) to commemorate the discovery of the Raman Effect by the renowned Indian physicist Sir C. V. Raman in 1928.
The event was conducted on the theme “Role of Science and Technology in Achieving Atmanirbhar Bharat.” Faculty members of both schools, research scholars from various schools, and postgraduate students actively participated in the programme. Around 150 participants attended the event.
The programme commenced with a welcome song presented by Ms. Linu Munda Majhi, Ph.D. Scholar, Department of Botany. Thereafter, research scholars from the School of IKST and the School of CIST delivered insightful talks on diverse scientific and technological topics aligned with the theme of the programme. The speakers included – Damayanti Majhi, Jhili Pradhan, Linu Munda Majhi, Seba Majhi, Sanjeed Kerai, Daray Soren, Baladev Bhatra, Kuntala Pujari, Pansori Sardar.
The speakers highlighted the importance of science and technology in national development and self-reliance. Their presentations covered a wide range of interdisciplinary research areas, including ethnomedicine, cancer biology, nanotechnology, cyber security, and indigenous scientific knowledge systems. The discussions reflected the growing contribution of young researchers toward innovation, sustainability, and societal development.
Professor Kashi Nath Jena addressed the gathering and encouraged students to pursue research that can contribute to the progress of society and the nation. Dr. Prashanta Kumar Routray appreciated the research activities being carried out at the university and motivated students to continue scientific exploration with dedication and commitment.
Dr. Srinibas Panda emphasized the significance of science in everyday life and explained how scientific thinking shapes modern society. Dr. Vimal Kumar Pandey elaborated on the application of indigenous knowledge systems in modern scientific advancements, including their contribution to satellite technologies such as the MOM mission.
The programme was successfully coordinated by Dr. Tanushree Das, Dr. Mamata Garanayak, and Dr. Sweta Arora. The event concluded with a Vote of Thanks delivered by Mr. Siba Majhi, Ph.D. Scholar, Department of Physics.
The celebration of National Science Day 2026 served as an inspiring platform for students and researchers to share scientific ideas, promote innovation, and reaffirm the importance of science and technology in building an Atmanirbhar Bharat.
