The National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit of the School of Tribal Resource Management (STRM) observed National Road Safety Day on 27th January 2026 on the theme : Sadak Suraksha- Jeevan Raksha, with the objective of generating awareness on road safety rules, responsible driving practices, and pedestrian safety among students. The programme was organized to inculcate a sense of civic responsibility and to encourage safe road behaviour among youth.

The programme commenced with opening remarks by the NSS Coordinator and Head of the Department of Commerce, Dr. Parikshita Khatua, who emphasized on the importance of road safety awareness in preventing accidents and protecting human lives. He highlighted the crucial role of educational institutions in sensitizing students to adopt disciplined and responsible behaviour on roads. The meeting was chaired by the NSS Programme Officer, Mr. Rudrashree Ramayan Sasmal, and was attended by all faculty members of STRM along with NSS volunteers. Several faculty members shared their valuable insights to strengthen awareness among students.

Dr. Liji Panda, Assistant Professor, STRM drew attention to road safety concerns related to the protection of animals and the importance of traffic discipline in reducing environmental pollution. Dr. Anita Pareek, highlighted the dangers of using mobile phones while driving and stressed the importance of strictly adhering to traffic rules. Dr. Annada Shankar Dash spoke on the duties and responsibilities of NSS volunteers, encouraging them to actively contribute as road safety ambassadors in society. Dr. Udayan Mohanty emphasized that violation of traffic rules has far-reaching consequences, adversely affecting not only individuals but also their families and society at large.

The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, who shared their views on road safety, recited thought-provoking poems, and presented innovative slogans promoting safe road practices. These activities enhanced awareness and reinforced the message of responsible road usage. The observation of Road Safety Day was meaningful and impactful, successfully reinforcing the values of responsibility, discipline, and public safety among the participants.
