A workshop on “Environment Protection Towards Sustainable Greenery” was successfully organized on 17th Februrary, 2026 by the Department of B.Voc, School of Tribal Resource Management (STRM), Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS), Deemed to be University in collaboration with Centre of Indigenous Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CIIE) and Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) under the banner of Institution Innovation Council, MoE. Mr. Subhranshu Satpathy, an environmentalist and UNEP Awardee (2019) was invited as the esteemed resource person for the session.
The workshop was facilitated and attended by faculty members, and students pursuing B.Voc.
The session began with the felicitation of the distinguished guest Mr. Subhransu Satpathy, an environmentalist, by Dr. Snigdharani Panda and Dr. Arpana Premi Lina Oran. The workshop was coordinated by Dr. Kamala Kant Das, facilitated by Dr. Somanath Mishra, and the vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Sushree Panda.
The workshop was divided into two major sessions. Session I was on Environment Protection Awareness and was delivered by Mr. Subhransu Satpathy, who enlightened students about the importance of environmental conservation through innovative awareness initiatives. He shared inspiring real-life experiences and activities including: Promoting tree protection by tying Rakhi to trees during Raksha Bandhan, symbolizing protection and emotional bonding with nature; Encouraging people to keep earthen water pots outside homes to provide drinking water to birds in urban concrete environments. He shared his achievement of distributing more than 50,000 earthen pots; Conducting human chain awareness campaigns for environmental protection; Demonstrating seed ball preparation techniques to promote afforestation; Explaining how seed balls help create artificial forests in barren areas and sharing his innovative initiative of dispersing over one lakh seed balls, including using drones for large-scale plantation in inaccessible areas.
He also motivated students by sharing his personal journey, emphasizing that small but consistent efforts with perseverance can bring large environmental changes.
Session II was on Green Entrepreneurship Opportunities and was conducted by Dr. Kamala Kant Das, Assistant Professor, B.Voc. Department, Entrepreneurship Development, STRM. He explained how environmental protection efforts can lead to business establishment and employment generation through green entrepreneurship. While defining Green Business, he opined that it is a summation of Profit, Planet and People. He also focused on how sustainable initiatives can generate livelihood opportunities while protecting nature.
He elaborated with practical examples showing how environmental challenges can be transformed into business opportunities in areas such as Waste Management; Organic Farming; Renewable Energy; Eco-friendly Products; Recycling Businesses and Eco-tourism Ventures.
Outcome of the Workshop was highly informative and motivating. Students actively participated in discussions and practical demonstrations, gaining awareness about environmental responsibility and entrepreneurial opportunities in the green economy. Both the sessions addressed the Sustainable Development Goals – Good Health and Well Being, Clean Water and Sanitation, Affordable and Clean Energy, responsible Consumption and Production, Climate Action, Life Below Water and Life on Land.
