The Department of Geography, School of Tribal Resource Management (STRM), Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences- Deemed to be University conducted a socio-economic field survey at Khatuapada village, Dhauli on 14th February 2026. A total of 50 final-year UG and PG students participated in this hands-on academic exercise, studying land and water resource utilisation, housing patterns, slum settlements, soil and vegetation analysis, geomorphological features, mineral resources, and community interaction. Khatuapada village in Dhauli Gram Panchayat, Khordha district, Odisha, provided a valuable setting for collecting primary data and engaging closely with the local community. The fieldwork strengthened students’ research and analytical skills while bridging the gap between theory and practice. The survey was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Monalisha Mishra, Assistant Professor & Head, Department of Geography, and Mrs. Saurava Goswamy, Lecturer, Geography Programme.
The success of the visit was made possible through the active support of local leaders and community members. Special thanks to Mr. Rabindra Das, Mr. Laxmidhar Mohapatra, Mr. Chandan Mallik, and Ms. Purnima Sahoo for their invaluable assistance during the data collection process. This experiential learning initiative will support students in developing individual research projects and deepen their understanding of rural life and sustainable development.
